Germany Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card): a new pathway to employment in Germany.
OPPORTUNITY CARD
The Chancenkarte, also called the Opportunity Card, is a newer German initiative for attracting skilled workers from abroad. It uses a points system that lets people enter Germany to look for work or to do freelance work, with the aim of addressing skill shortages and strengthening the economy.
The points system scores applicants on qualifications, work experience, language ability, age and ties to Germany. This is more flexible than traditional visa routes and lets workers explore jobs across many sectors, with strengths in engineering, technology and healthcare.
POINTS SYSTEM
The card uses a points framework. Exact point values may change with future policy. Applicants who reach the minimum score can qualify to enter for job seeking or freelance work.
Points for a recognized university degree or vocational qualification relevant to the German job market.
Extra points for relevant experience in high-demand fields.
Higher points for higher German proficiency.
Younger applicants may score higher, reflecting the goal of attracting a younger workforce.
Extra points for prior study, work or family ties.
